An opportunity of this caliber won't be available again for quite some time.

Alpha Society

Dear Reader,

"John, how do I prepare for what's coming?"

It's the question I hear more than any other—whether I'm sitting at a dinner table in Dallas, walking the streets of New York, or sifting through correspondence here at my home in Puerto Rico.

Preparing for a crisis isn't just about what's in your portfolio.

It's about understanding the seismic shifts reshaping our world and positioning ourselves—financially, emotionally, and socially—to adapt.

I've written extensively about the broad outlines of the coming crisis: the debt problem and its unavoidable reckoning, demographic shifts challenging economies, and geopolitical shifts rewriting alliances.

john-mauldin-networking.jpg

But specifics? Those depend on how we respond.

That's the nature of crises—they are sudden, brutal resets.

Old institutions crumble, new ones take their place.

It's in these moments of upheaval that the greatest opportunities arise, and the deepest personal bonds are forged.

History teaches us this: the people who get to the other side of crises and emerge stronger are those who recognize the stakes, adapt to the changes, and find strength in trusted networks.

That’s why I’m writing to you today.

Preparing for what's ahead isn't just about understanding cycles.

It's about avoiding the oncoming train and harnessing the momentum to make it to the other side.

The question isn't if a major crisis is coming—it's when and whether you'll be ready to face it.

That’s why, after keeping Alpha Society closed to new members, we are reopening enrollment for a very short window.

I urge you to take a moment to read through this invitation—not just for yourself, but for your family and your future.

In times like these, having a seat at the right table can make all the difference.

The Next Few Years Could Be the Most Turbulent Yet

I’ve written extensively about cycles—drawing on insights from Neil Howe’s Fourth Turning, Peter Turchin’s overproduction of elites, George Friedman’s geopolitical shifts, Ray Dalio’s economic frameworks, and my own Endgame: The End of the Debt Supercycle.

Together, these perspectives paint an unmistakable picture: change is accelerating, and we’re moving toward a major crisis by the end of this decade.

We’ve seen this before. The French call it fin de siècle—periods of upheaval and transformation that reset the world’s trajectory.

Think of the years leading up to World War I, when the old order fractured and new systems emerged.

Or the post–World War II era, where Bretton Woods and the UN set the stage for decades of expansion.

Or the 1970s, when the oil shock and stagflation blindsided policymakers and forced a complete rethinking of monetary and energy systems.

gas-shortage.jpg

Crisis is the crucible for change. And again, it’s on our doorstep.

What will the exact catalyst be? No one knows.

But we can’t deny these cycles test institutions, disrupt industries, and reshape how we live, work, and connect.

We’re living through one of those pivotal moments when everything shifts.

Either we move early, or we move too late.

Once the storm arrives, it’s not just too late to de-risk; you’re already dealing with the second- and third-order effects—falling asset values, institutional strain, and cascading shocks that ripple through every corner of the economy.

We saw it in 2007, when a housing bubble metastasized into a global financial crisis.

We saw it in the Great Depression, which gutted industries, wiped out savings, and left entire nations scrambling to survive.

newspaper.jpg

The Panic of 1873 triggered a six-year economic stagnation where hundreds of banks failed, railroads declared bankruptcy, and unemployment soared.

Each time, while the country eventually found a way through. Countless individuals did not.

The unprepared—those without a trusted network, were left scrambling.

And the coming crisis will be larger, more global, and more interlinked than anything we’ve experienced in the modern era.

But what truly matters isn’t just what’s coming—it’s how you face it, and with whom.

Fiscal Reality: The Warning Signs Are Eerily Familiar.

Today, my Social Security checks total about $52,000 a year.

Thanks to inflation adjustments, those checks have grown by nearly 20% since COVID. I see that number hit my account every month. It’s real, tangible.

But what I also see is the shadow looming over it.

If those same contributions had instead been invested in the S&P 500, that account might be worth millions today.

It’s a stark reminder of what could have been—and what’s at stake for all of us.

As of December 2025, the fiscal picture is deteriorating faster than anyone expected.

By FY 2034, the latest CBO baseline projects federal debt approaching $50 trillion, roughly 118% of GDP. Higher than any point in our nation’s history.

federal-debt.png

Even now, the deficit is running about $1.8 trillion. Roughly 6% of GDP, after briefly brushing $2 trillion on a rolling 12-month basis.

Over the next decade, annual deficit will rise to $2.5 trillion, with more than half of that coming from “net interest.”

spending-deficits.png

And by 2034, interest payments alone could reach $1.7–$2.0 trillion per year, crowding out everything else.

interest-costs.jpg

This is debt at WWII levels—but unlike then, there is no post-war boom waiting on the other side.

Debt held by the public now stands around $30 trillion, roughly 98–100% of GDP, leaving almost no room for fiscal maneuver in the face of recession, crisis, or geopolitical shock.

Non-defense discretionary spending totals just $928 billion, covering essential programs like education, infrastructure, and public health. The math doesn't work anymore.

The debt spiral has moved well beyond spreadsheets and forecasts.

table-budget-outlook.png

History is uncomfortably clear what happens next…

The French Revolution of 1789, where spiraling debt and financial mismanagement triggered a collapse of the old order, unleashed a wave of upheaval.

The Latin American Debt Crisis of the 1980s plunged countries into economic stagnation and a "lost decade" of austerity.

And the Weimar Republic in the 1920s erupted into chaos when reparations and hyperinflation wiped out savings.

By July 1922, prices had risen by 700%.

*Below is an image captured of a crowd in front of a bank during the Weimar Republic's hyperinflation crisis, July 14, 1921.

weimar.jpg

Point is, these crises, inevitable in their time, leave a trail of economic stagnation, political instability, and social upheaval in their wake.

For us, we face a debt trajectory that is even more unsustainable. Time is almost up.

Reconciling this level of debt requires nothing short of "economic osteoclasis"—a re-breaking of what's poorly healed to reset and rebuild properly.

It’ll Be Painful, Messy, and Unavoidable.

According to Goldman Sachs, the market cap of the largest stock is now 750 TIMES the market cap of a 75th percentile stock.

To put this in perspective, even at the peak of the 2000 dot-com bubble, the metric only reached 550X.

We are now operating at concentration levels that exceed the dot-com peak and rival the extremes of 1932.

chart-market-cap.png

And to be clear, we’re not replaying 1929, at least not literally.

But concentration at this scale is a warning flare: the system is stretched in ways that can fail without much notice.

The good news (if we can call it that) is that we still have a narrow window to pre-position before the break.

This is the moment when investors who are out of position stay out of position… and those who act early preserve the buying power needed to get through what’s coming.

At these levels, this isn’t just about volatility or extremes, it’s about the potential for a systemic realignment. The question is no longer if—it’s when.

Optimism Alone Won't Protect Us.

So, when asked about how to prepare for what’s coming

My approach, and one I strongly urge you to consider, is being a rational optimist.

As I often tell people:

I’m an optimist, but I’m a rational optimist.

Understand we’ll get through this, but it’s going to be messy. It may even get kinetic.

But here’s the caveat, attitude can only take you so far.

Optimism alone won’t shield us from the second- and third-order effects of crises—protests, strikes, and civil unrest as austerity measures bite… the ripple effects of economic instability that test even the strongest communities.

That’s why you need to be aligned with the right information, the right frameworks, and the right people.

It starts with first principles: managing portfolios, assets, and relationships in ways that preserve as much buying power and resilience as possible for the other side.

In times of crisis that wealth is never truly destroyed. It’s almost always transferred from one person to another.

When a market crashes, someone is on the opposite side of the trade making a fortune.

And in the coming years, I predict trillions of dollars will be transferred from those who aren’t prepared… to those who are.

The only question is which side of that transfer you’ll be on.

That’s why, after being closed for 12 months, we have re-opened Alpha Society, to give you the research depth, perspective, and alignment you need to stay on the right side of that transfer.

This is your chance to stand with those who see the path forward—seasoned voices to walk you through what’s changing, what matters most, and how to position accordingly.

Clear Eyes, Steady Hands, and the People I Trust Most

Alongside me, standing shoulder to shoulder on the frontlines of this coming crisis, is Ed D’Agostino.

Ed’s ability to cut through the noise and identify what truly matters makes him indispensable—not just to me, but to the entire Alpha Society.

As my trusted partner and a key force behind Mauldin Economics, Ed plays an essential role in shaping the research and strategies we share with you.

He sees both the forest and the trees, and that combination is extraordinarily rare.

ed-at-sic.jpg

Of course, we don’t do this alone. From time to time, we bring in outside voices who shape my own thinking—people like Lacy Hunt, Louis Gave, Bruce Mehlman, and others whose perspectives help us see around corners.

But this year, we’re going a step further.

We’re deepening our partnerships with two people whose work I follow every day:

peter-boockvar.jpg

Peter Boockvar, my first call for real-time economic signals, liquidity trends, and what’s happening beneath the headlines.

ed-yardeni.jpg

Dr. Ed Yardeni, a friend of 25+ years and someone who consistently gets the major calls right.

If you follow the financial world, you’ve likely seen their work featured in Bloomberg, CNBC, and across top-tier institutional research platforms. Yardeni is quoted frequently by Bloomberg’s Tom Keene, and Peter’s market insights are a staple for professional money managers.

You’ll see more about how their research folds into the Alpha Society experience below. But I can tell you this: their thoughts, and the clarity they bring, matter more now than ever.

Together, we will get through it and come out stronger on the other side.

Your Seat at the Alpha Society Table

As I wrap this up, I’m reminded how uncommon it is that we open the doors to Alpha Society. It’s been a year since we last invited new members, and before that, nearly two.

We don’t do this often, and we don’t do it lightly.

The world is shifting in ways most investors won’t recognize until long after the fact.

Crises always bring risk. But they also bring the kind of opportunity that only appears a few times in a generation.

That’s why Alpha Society exists. Not as another club, but as the latticework of research and access that helps you stay ahead of the forces reshaping our world.

Four times a year we meet, virtually of course, to confront those changes head-on.

Because of the intimacy of these discussions, and the depth of the research we explore together, the group must be aligned, thoughtful, and intentional about positioning for what’s ahead.

mld-room.jpg

These are fully interactive sessions: cameras on, lively discussions, members speaking directly with me, Ed D’Agostino, and our guests, sharpening and sometimes even debating each other in the comments. It’s the closest thing to being in the room together.

Between those calls, the conversation continues...

Inside the Alpha Member Portal, members stay plugged into the Mauldin Economics ecosystem: the research, the analysis, and the ongoing discussions that help make sense of a world that isn’t getting simpler.

You’ll be connected to the entire research engine, without expiration.

If we’re going to live longer, and I believe many of us will, we also need to plan smarter.

So we arranged for the benefits of Alpha Society to compound. Meaning, we’ve created a way for the tools, the context, and the structure you gain inside to serve your children and grandchildren long after you and I are gone.

When you join today, here are just a few of the things you’ll receive:

check-mld.png

Access to all the subscription services we currently publish plus special access and discounts on any future one-off products or events.

check-mld.png

Complimentary yearly virtual access to SIC

check-mld.png

Private quarterly Alpha Calls with me, Ed D’Agostino, and leading experts

And many other benefits my team has outlined below.

At its core, Alpha Society is about readiness. It’s about seeing the world as it is, not as we wish it to be—and positioning yourself on the right side of the structural changes already underway.

I don’t know when we’ll open enrollment again, but I suspect the world will look very different when we do.

If you decide to join us, I’ll look forward to seeing you on the next call.

Your always curious and determined to get through it analyst,

Yield Shark

Proven income strategies for safety-focused investors

Led by Kelly Green, known for her disciplined approach to financially resilient income—Yield Shark gives members a done-for-you dividend portfolio designed for stability, rising income, and long-term total return.

Where others panic-sell at the first sign of turbulence, Yield Shark members keep collecting checks.

Transformative Age

Redefining Health, Longevity, and Wealth—Together.

Value: $1,795/year

ipad-ta.jpg

Transformative Age distills breakthroughs and identifies the companies most likely to reach their “iPhone moment.”

Led by Patrick Cox and Chris Wood, two of John Mauldin’s closest collaborators in biotech and longevity science, Transformative Age turns this research into a clear, investable longevity portfolio grounded in disciplined analysis and clinical context. You’ll see:
