Turning On Your Microphone and Video During the Meeting

  1. Turning On Your Microphone

    • Locate the Microphone Icon: Once you're in the meeting, find the microphone icon on the bottom left of the Zoom window. It looks like a small microphone like this:

  • Unmute Yourself: If the microphone icon has a red line through it, your microphone is muted. Click on the microphone icon to unmute yourself. The red line will disappear, indicating your microphone is now on.

  • Turning On Your Video

    • Locate the Video Icon: Next to the microphone icon, you’ll see a video camera icon. This controls your video settings. The icon will look like this:

  • Start Your Video: If the video icon has a red line through it, your video is off. Click on the video camera icon to start your video. The red line will disappear, and your video will be live.

Troubleshooting Tips

  • Can't Unmute or Start Video: If you can't unmute your microphone or start your video, the host may have disabled these features for attendees. Contact the Alpha Society team for assistance.

  • Audio Issues: If others can't hear you, check if your microphone is muted and your computer’s volume is up. Make sure the correct microphone is selected in the Zoom settings.

  • Video Issues: If your video isn’t working, make sure your webcam is connected and not being used by another application. You can also check your video settings in Zoom by clicking the small arrow next to the video icon and selecting “Video Settings.”
