Meet the Team

Meet some of the talented and experienced researchers and analysts at Mauldin Economics.

Patrick Watson

Patrick Watson

Senior Economic Analyst

Patrick Watson is a compulsive trend-observer and John Mauldin’s senior economic analyst. He and John first began collaborating around 30 years ago, and he contributes research and ideas to John’s wildly popular weekly e-letter, Thoughts from the Frontline. When John needs to make sense of the senseless, Patrick is often the first person he looks to.

Like John, Patrick specializes in a global macro perspective—from the latest correction in oil to new housing bubbles in China, or whatever is happening in global markets. Patrick’s illuminating explanations help shape several Mauldin Economics publications.

Patrick’s writing portfolio reads like a Who’s Who in financial publishing: Forbes, Business Insider, Investor’s Business Daily, Seeking Alpha, Money & Markets, Market Watch, Newsmax, ZeroHedge, and more. When Patrick breaks down a topic, people get it. His decades-honed ability to simplify complex ideas into crystal-clear takeaways makes his contributions invaluable.

Olivier Garret

Olivier Garret

Chief Executive Officer

In 2012, he launched the Hard Assets Alliance, a revolutionary trading platform for precious metal investors. In addition, Olivier is managing partner of three hedge funds invested in the resource sector.

Between 2007 and 2015, Olivier was CEO and Partner of Casey Research, another publisher of financial research focused on the resource sector. Olivier successfully sold the company to Stansberry & Associates in May of 2015.

Prior to joining Casey Research in January 2007, Olivier was a principal in Kemp Management, a management consulting firm focused on merger & acquisition, restructuring, and turnaround activities for a variety of private equity firms and financial institutions. In this capacity, he led and participated in dozens of merger & acquisition and restructuring deals in a variety of industries.

During the 1990s, Olivier was CEO and general manager of a number of industrial businesses ranging from entrepreneurial start-ups to divisions of a Fortune 500 company.

He earned an MBA from the Amos Tuck School of Business Administration at Dartmouth College and a Master’s in Business from the Université de Paris IX-Dauphine.

Ed D'Agostino

Ed D'Agostino

Publisher

Ed D’Agostino is the Publisher of Mauldin Economics. He began his career in finance at a boutique investment house and later joined his largest client as Vice President of Business Development. In this capacity Ed directed strategic growth initiatives while providing investment analysis and advisory services to the company’s principals. Prior to joining Mauldin Economics, Ed was Managing Director at a consultancy focused on business development in the financial sector. He has been instrumental in the start-up and expansion of several businesses. Ed’s clients, including hedge funds, lenders, and investment publishers, relied on him to recruit and mentor analysts, develop controls and systems, and implement growth strategies.

In early 2012, Ed consulted with John Mauldin to develop the business plan for Mauldin Economics, and subsequently joined the company to build a strong editorial, research and analytical team. Ed and the growing team of analysts and financial editors at Mauldin Economics share a single-minded purpose—to produce the highest quality investment publications in the industry.

Dawn Pennington

Dawn Pennington

Editorial Director/Editor, Reality Check

Dawn Pennington has spent the past two decades as a financial editor, writer, and department head for several top financial publishing houses —including Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.-based Weiss Ratings, Baltimore-based Agora Companies, and Washington, DC-based Phillips Investment Resources —gaining a top-notch trading education alongside some of the most prolific traders and investors in the country.

She spent the early part of her career as a grant writer in the nonprofit sector, with another few years spent as a journalist in the mental health field. (Which, she finds, comes in handy when assessing the stock market and the sentiment that drives it.)

Although Dawn is well-versed in options, stocks, ETFs, futures, technical analysis, cryptocurrencies, natural resources, and other trading strategies, her favorite part of financial publishing is the opportunity to work alongside the industry’s top experts to help them translate “Trader’s English” into easy-to-understand, actionable articles for investors of all skill levels.

Dawn is a Washington, DC, expat who currently resides in South Florida. She is currently the editorial director/associate publisher at Dallas-based Mauldin Economics.

He lived in Germany and Switzerland for several years and currently splits his time between domiciles in Europe and the US.

Kevin was formerly affiliated with a well-known investment research company as an editor for several years prior to joining the Mauldin organization.
