US should pay Stephen McBride to immigrate to the US and add a bonus if he brings his wife and children!

there is still far to much H1B fraud and misuse to let in much more 'legal' immigration

How does the BLS account for Output in this Digital Age? What exactly is Meta's (Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp) output? Number of downloads?? Number of paid subscription?? Number of Ads sold?? I also doubt any of their managers know how many hours they work. More than half of America's workforce is now salaried and not hourly workers.

Comparing to the "red hot" post COVID era seems a little aggressive to make a case.

I have trouble accepting any articles about 'unemployment' that seem to implicitly assume the millions 'not looking for a job', are existing in some borg-like suspended animation outside the economy! Some of us have never wanted a 'job', which is another word for describing a serf's cage.

Many if not most of the 'jobless' are simply small solopreneurs like me. I'm 'retired'...I'm 83...I have never stopped working at least part time. I can't be that unusual in this, except for age/generation, but so many people are working their own businesses on AMZ (me), Spotify, their own ThriveCart sales funnel systems on social media and google ads, Facebook, and 100's of other self employment hacks.

7 million people without 'jobs' still have to make their personal economies function in order to stay alive and be counted! This seems SO OBVIOUS, yet you never seem to account for what those 'jobless' people are doing??? I file taxes and pay self employment tax...I'll bet many don't.

I'll go out on the proverbial limb and say the American economy is far more robust than your 'inside the box' research shows. Do you forget that Amazon and Microsoft, and other massive economic engines began in garages, or on kitchen tables, or in campus student unions by those auditing classes?

Being self employed is, in fact, being employed. The 7 million statistic you note is the Fed's count of people who are jobless, available for work, and actively searching for employment.

Ed, I have a continuing question about how all the folks involved in the fraud that is being revealed across the country are fitting into or not fitting into the employment numbers that are printed each month. Are they reducing the total number of people available for employment? Or are they in the unemployed or ? Just wondering about this.

What about the often quoted statistic of Mike Rowe about 7 million working age men not even looking for work? Also, let's not ignore the jobs created for those people who built, and will build, those Amazon and other industry robots. Then there are the programmers and maintenance techs for those robots. Ultimately, will there be more robot and tech related jobs created than were/will be destroyed by automation?

Great article. Regulations on certain products greatly influence productivity. A bottleneck analysis of many of these regulations and streamlining those that have the biggest impact on productivity should also be on our todo list.
