There are weeks when decades happen

Talking about the Russian Revolution, Lenin once said that “There are decades when nothing happens and there are weeks when decades happen.” The last quarter of 2001 looks in retrospect like one of those exciting periods: three events occurred that set in motion the main economic direction of the ensuing decade. Successful investors latched on to at least one of these trends. The problem is, the investment strategies that worked over the past decade will not continue to work in the next. What will replace them? In the following Ideas piece, my friend Louis Gave identifies what he believes will be the next major mega-trends.
