What is money?
February 21, 2012
Up way too early on a Tuesday morning, I stumble to the (home) office, hit the coffee machine launch button, and start to wade into emails. This early I have Asia and some of Europe's papers coming to me (I use papers loosely - emails, essays, letters, etc.), and there was this from GaveKal. Which forced me to really read it once I started, as they address one of the fundamental issues of our moment. Namely, what is money? As I am toying with the idea of writing another book in 2014 with Jonathan Tepper, on the "Coming Currency and Trade Protection Wars" (yes, sadly, I think we have a lot of time to get to that one), I am gathering material. "But be forewarned, the question of money is a vexing philosophical one which has divided thinkers for centuries. After all, every one uses money to measure value, to store wealth, and to exchange goods, but no-one really knows why money has any value at all."
